Key Takeaways from Three-and-a-Half Hours with Henry Rollins

by admin

Today we close our quick, two-part series on takeaways from Authority Rainmaker by focusing on the lessons learned by listening to Henry Rollins. Rollins, of course, gave the closing keynote at Authority Rainmaker. He then spoke at Boulder Theater the next night. Jerod was in attendance for both.

In this episode, Jerod and Demian recount their first Rollins live experiences and share what stood out most:

  • What made Henry Rollins such a perfect choice for the Authority Rainmaker closing keynote ‰ÛÓ whether people realized it beforehand or not
  • Why Henry Rollins is, much to Demian‰Ûªs chagrin, a perfect embodiment of ‰ÛÏchoose yourself.‰Û
  • Jerod‰Ûªs impressions of two-and-a-half more hours of Rollins the next night in Boulder
  • The importance of placing periods and exclamation points at end of your plans ‰ÛÓ not question marks.
  • How Henry Rollins is, in his own words, like a frozen yogurt machine.
  • Demian‰Ûªs two favorite quotes from Rollins‰Ûª closing keynote
  • Why Henry Rollins‰Ûª example is one to follow for anyone who wants to build an authentic, long-term connection with an audience
  • How Rollins prepares for each presentation

And then Demian ends the episode with ‰Û_ a poem about skinny jeans? You‰Ûªll just have to listen to find out the connection.

The importance of culture in digital marketing ‰ÛÒ INTERNET MARKETING PODCAST #293

by admin

In this episode we talk to John who is head of new business and has been with Oban for 2.5 years and Emily, who is head of SEO, international strategy. She has 18 years‰Ûª experience working in digital for international markets. They talk to us about how localisation is very important regarding cultural boundaries. When working cross-border, it is not just about language, it‰Ûªs more about culture and the people. Getting technology right is very important; you need to target specific users and you want to avoid confusing search engines. You need to make sure international technical set up is correct.
How do you go about choosing a market? They suggest looking at the traffic you are already getting by referring to your analytics and being realistic about growth and understanding local behaviour. You will need to perform gap analysis and find the sweet-spot versus your competitors. They discuss the many aspects to cultural conversion: addressing their needs, colours, layout and tone of voice will all have an impact on how people will view a web page.

How to Grow an Audience on LinkedIn by Repurposing Content

by admin

Job one for any business, entrepreneur, or marketer is to grow an audience. Content syndication is one such approach to doing just that. But it‰Ûªs not entirely understood.
Content syndication is an age-old idea of taking an original piece of work and then trying to get it published in other places.
And when I say other places I mean: you look for bigger sites to publish your work. In other words, effective content syndication occurs when you go up the food chain ‰ÛÓ not down.
But some social sites are now allowing you to republish old articles on their platforms. Medium and LinkedIn are two such places.
The reward? Getting exposed to a new audience.
A few episodes ago we looked at Medium. On this episode we‰Ûªll explore LinkedIn.
In this 26-minute episode you‰Ûªll discover:

  • Who can actually publish on LinkedIn
  • What kind of content works really well on LinkedIn
  • The proper way to republish on LinkedIn (includes advice about the headline and image)
  • The two best times to publish on LinkedIn
  • The love song Demian wrote for Jerod and his fiancÌ©

by admin

Ed is an entrepreneur who has worked with plenty of innovative businesses including the gaming industry. In this podcast he talks about his transition to entrepreneur and founding Laundrapp. He discusses how marketing is very closely aligned to entrepreneurship. Marketers tend to be the glue in organisations; they will work across the whole business, similar to how Entrepreneurs operate. He talks about the importance of optics, and how having a website and managing your own profile is very important.
What is the most important change marketers need to make in order to become an entrepreneur? Ed suggests having the right mind set, celebrate making mistakes which will allow you to optimise the things that work vs the things that don‰Ûªt. He talks about being honest with yourself. Do you want to focus on one niche, or do you want to be an MD or CEO? If you‰Ûªre a marketer who wants to make the same transition, Ed suggests some ‰Û÷must-read‰Ûª books, listening to podcasts like this one and being creative.
